Collegiate Baseball Magazine named LSU junior right-hander Aaron Nola one of its National Players of the Week on Monday.
Nola (2-0) had a stellar outing on Friday night against Virginia Tech in Alex Box Stadium, tossing seven innings of no-hit baseball. He also recorded eight strikeouts and one walk in 87 pitches.
There has never been a nine-inning no-hitter in LSU history, and Nola went the deepest in any game without giving up a hit since Brian Winders went 8 2/3 innings without surrendering a base hit on April 15, 1995.
The Baton Rouge native has yet to give up an earned run in 2014, and he is expected to anchor the weekend rotation throughout the season.
Assuming he has a season like his sophomore campaign – 12-1, 1.57 ERA and 122 strikeouts in 126 innings pitched – Nola will be a high MLB draft target later this year.
