After a convincing 31-0 defeat of the UL-Monroe Warhawks Saturday in Tiger Stadium, the LSU defense accomplished something it had not done in 73 years. The last time an LSU defense posted back-to-back shutouts at home was in 1941, until this weekend.
“Defensively, I think we are playing dominant football,” LSU Head Coach Les Miles said.
Since going down 24-7 in the third quarter against Wisconsin, the Tigers have shutout their opponents by a score of 108-0. LSU was able to hold ULM to 93 total yards on 48 plays of offense.
“Coach Chavis and all of the defensive coaches challenged us to get better,” sophomore cornerback TreDavious White said. “They challenged us to get better today.”
With the offense consistently humming along, the defense will have a chance for a third consecutive shutout next week in the Tigers’ SEC opener against Mississippi State.
“Right now we’ve got guys playing at a very high level,” cornerback Jalen Mills said. “We’ve got to keep that intensity throughout the whole season.”
