Gov. Jindal announced Wednesday, January 23, that he supports legalizing medical marijuana in Louisiana as long as it is tightly controlled.
“If there is a legitimate medical need, I’d certainly be open to making it available under very strict supervision for patients that would benefit from that,” Jindal said.
Doctors are legally able to write prescriptions for medical marijuana use in Louisiana, but there are no places available to purchase the drug. Lawmakers would need to change current state statute to make medicinal marijuana useable in Louisiana.
