LSU’s second baseball game of the season on Feb. 15 against UNO will be played at Zephyr Field instead of the previously scheduled Maestri Field, which is undergoing renovations.
“We were excited to host the nationally ranked Tigers at newly renovated Maestri Field,” UNO athletic director Derek Morel said in a news release. “However, the overwhelming interest in our home opener versus LSU and the desire to ensure a perfect grand opening of our new facility brought us to the opportunity to partner with the Zephyrs organization on this landmark event.”
The Privateers, coached by the new field’s namesake Ron Maestri, will now celebrate a grand opening of Maestri Field at Privateer Park on March 14 prior to their first Southland Conference game against Sam Houston State.
The Tigers open the season at 7p.m. on Feb. 14 against the Privateers in Alex Box Stadium.
