It may not have been the day LSU fans were hoping for, but the Tigers walked away from the Under Armour All-American game with two of the nation’s top recruits, including the No. 1 overall player, running back Leonard Fournette.
A St. Augustine High School product, Fournette opted to stay in-state as he announced his commitment to LSU alongside his family in Tampa Bay.
Many experts considered Fournette to be one of the best recruits to ever come out of Louisiana, as the tailback dominated the state with his powerful running ability and vision out of the backfield.
Another commitment to LSU, Texas safety Jamal Adams was the first Tiger score of the day.
LSU will hope the country’s No. 2 safety prospect can help remedy an ailing Tigers secondary heading into the 2014-15 season.
The rest of the day didn’t go as well for LSU. The Tigers whiffed the nation’s No. 1 athlete, Devante ‘Speedy’ Noil, and high school teammate defensive lineman Gerald Willis III both selected Texas A&M and Florida, respectively. Noil and Willis both went to Edna Karr in New Orleans.
Willis followed in his brother Landon Collins’ footsteps and spurned his mother’s wishes of a Baton Rouge commitment.
Noil — who is expected to move to wide receiver upon arrival in College Station, Texas — had a strong performance during the actual game, hauling in a few big catches, and a long touchdown pass from LSU commit quarterback Brandon Harris.
Texas Cornerback Tony Brown would be the final recruit to commit away from LSU as Brown verbally committed to Alabama.
