La. Gov. Bobby Jindal held a news conference late Monday, warning Louisiana residents to stay in their homes Tuesday and Wednesday unless absolutely necessary. Jindal announced that the State of Emergency from last Friday’s storm is still in effect and that the National Guard is responding in addition to local first-responders.
Jindal urged everyone to stay off the roads, citing a 343 percent increase in per day traffic incidents with the ice storm last Friday.
Jindal advised residents with power outages to contact their local officials, whom he said would be working closely with state officials to ensure that everyone has power.
Jindal urged residents to check on their relatives, especially the elderly, to ensure their safety. He said to check 511la.org for updates.
