On Tuesday, Angel Reese was named SEC Player of the Year, and Mikaylah Williams was named SEC Freshman of the Year.
Reese is also a part of the All-SEC First Team and the SEC All-Defensive team. Aneesah Morrow also earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team. Reese also earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team last season.
Williams is also a part of the SEC All-Freshman team along with Aalyah Del Rosario.
This marks the second season in a row that an LSU women’s basketball player was named SEC Freshman of the Year, with Flau’jae Johnson winning the award last season. This season, Johnson was awarded All-SEC Second Team honors.
The last time a player from the same school won the award in back-to-back years was in 2016 and 2017 at Missouri.
Reese leads the team and the SEC with 19.1 points per game and 13.0 rebounds per game, becoming the second player to lead the conference in both categories for multiple seasons.
She’s recorded 20 double-double performances this season and has 54 double-doubles in her time at LSU. Last season, Reese broke Sylvia Fowles’ LSU record for most consecutive double-doubles, as she started the season with 23. She also set an SEC record with that in the process.
Williams came to LSU as the top high school recruit in the Class of 2023. She averages 14.9 points per game along with 4.9 rebounds per game and 3.1 assists per game. The true freshman from Bossier City was quick to get on the court of the Tigers. She led the team with 17 points in LSU’s season opening loss against Colorado.
Williams also put the entire country on watch when she scored 42 points in a 30-point win over Kent State. In that game, she shot 15-for-20 from the field and 5-for-8 from three. She’s been a force for the Tigers overall, recording seven 20-plus point games.
