Junior Mayme Cook led the LSU track and field teams in their first meet of the outdoor season Friday by winning the javelin title and recording her personal best throw at the Louisiana Classics in Lafayette.
Cook threw her javelin 161 feet, 0 inches in her first throw of the season. She led a sweep of the top three places in the event for the Lady Tigers.
Junior Doren Welch finished right behind Cook in second place with a throw of 149 feet, three inches, and sophomore Alli Brasuell won the bronze medal with a throw of 136 feet, three inches.
Senior Jeremy Tuttle took home the silver medal in the javelin competition to lead the men’s team with a throw of 201 feet, two inches. He was followed by junior Terry Hughes, who won the bronze for LSU.
The teams will continue the competition at the Louisiana Classics on Saturday with the first field events of the day scheduled for 9 a.m. The first final events will begin at 2 p.m.
