The University of Oklahoma’s Sigma Alpha Epsilon Chapter has been shut down after a video leaked showing several members singing a racist chant.
Two members of the fraternity were expelled for their role in leading the chant.
Campus organization, Unheard, and the university’s newspaper anonymously received the video and posted it Saturday. The video depicts several young men chanting, “there will never be a n****r in SAE.”
Another video was released Tuesday that captured the fraternity’s house mother Beauton Gilbow repeatedly singing the n-word.
Following the release of the first video hundreds of students at OU gathered to protest Monday morning on campus. Students and members of the football team marched across the campus with tape over their mouths to express their disapproval of SAE’s actions.
The fraternity has been ordered by university President David Boren to vacate their house. Boren said in various statements to the press that racism will not be tolerated at the university and that the fraternity will not be welcome back.
“The house will be closed, and as far as I’m concerned, they won’t be back,” Boren said.
