Jessie Jordan, a Kinesiology major from Houston, Texas, arrived in Baton Rouge through a connection between D-D Breaux and a family friend.
“Her Dad has a mutual friend and they were talking one day in the oil fields and he said well I happen to know D-D really well,” said D-D Breaux. “So they made a phone call and it kind of accelerated Jessie getting in touch with me or Jessie’s Dad calling me and the process began very early and Jessie actually graduated high school early.”
Jessie enrolled early at LSU after graduating high school in December 2011, and anchored beam for most of her freshman season with a 9.865 RQS. Jordan competed in the all-around in 13 of 14 meet that season.
“Looking back as myself as a freshman, not only did I have bleach blonde hair then, I feel like a new person,” said Jordan. ”When I was a freshman I didn’t know what to expect so of course I was having fun.”
Jordan’s calm demeanor and personality has helped her anchor beam for all 4 years of her career, arguably the hardest event
“Composure is everything, and to calm your nerves before beam, staying on four inches is everything. It’s different every time, some routines I can hear my teammates and I feed off of their energy and their words of encouragement, but other times.. its really just focusing in on that event.” Jordan said.
Jordan will leave a mark as one of LSU Gymnastics’ best all-arounders and beam performers. She is an eight time All-American, three time All-SEC performer, three time academic All-SEC, and the 2015 central region gymnast of the year. As the LSU team prepares for the NCAA Championships, Jordan looks forward to anchoring the beam, and her teammates, one final time in pursuit of a championship.
“We’re right there, it’s just all in the small details, and we want to leave a legacy,” said Jordan. ”There’s so many great aspects about LSU from the academics to the football, to the sports, to just the community in general has been so fun. It’s something I’m not ready to give up.”
