Facebook is now letting users decide what happens to their profile after death. Users now have the options to have their page deleted or managed by a loved one prior to their passing.
Users can chose their accounts “Legacy contact” through the website’s security page. Friends and family also have the option of requesting control of a users profile by submitting a form featuring the name of the deceased, proof of death and date of passing.
The person will be able to change the deceased’s profile photo, accept friend request and post announcements on their page. They can also request a file featuring all the user’s photos, post and information.
Facebook stated last year they having been looking to provide users with options for managing their accounts after death. The legacy option is optional and will be released in other countries soon.
