The episode opens in a Philadelphia hotel, where Annalise is curled up in bed. She begins drinking the night away and drinks more and more as the days go by as shown in a montage of her drinking her life away in her hotel room.
Annalise returns from her trip to her home where her sister-in-law, Hannah, is waiting to talk to her.
The two discuss Sam’s disappearance. Her sister-in-law brings up the idea of foul play, that perhaps someone hurt Sam. Annalise then gives her a box of evidence she used to convince the court that Sam killed Lila. Her sister-in-law denies all of the evidence and Annalise tells her Sam is not the man she thought he was.
Back at school, the baby lawyers discuss Sam’s sister coming to town. It turns out Connor is the only one who knew, as Annalise didn’t tell any of the others.
After finding out, Wes confronts Annalise asking why she didn’t tell him. She says there are some things he doesn’t need to know.
Bonnie gives the gang a new case to work on to get everyone’s minds off the murder. Annalise talks to Jackie, the woman who wants her to take the case, but after talking to her for a few minutes, Annalise declines. Then, the woman tells Annalise her husband is holding two girls captive in their basement. That of course gets Annalise and everyone else’s attention.
The woman explains her story, telling the gang she had a rough life as a teenager on the streets. Then, she met her husband who basically preyed on her and took her in. After discovering they aren’t able to have children, her husband started abducting girls, holding them captive and getting them pregnant.
Annalise takes her on as a client and wants to get her a plea deal, but the gang objects, saying she helped her husband keep these girls and she deserves to be in jail.
After that, Annalise’s sister-in-law informs her the police have a lead on Sam, telling her a woman claims she saw him.
Laurel goes home and to visit her family and the audience discovers she is half-Hispanic on her father’s side. She and her family have lunch and she starts mouthing off. Her dad starts yelling at her in Spanish. She argues back in Spanish and then he kicks her out.
Despite their protesting, Annalise sends the baby lawyers to find evidence to establish that Jackie was a victim too to try to get her a plea deal. The girls who were held captive are now free, and they speak to the gang about how nurturing Jackie was to them. One of the girls is actually pregnant now. Jackie reveals this is not the girl’s first pregnancy, as she was pregnant before but the baby died.
Cut to Annalise in bed with hot cop sidepiece Nate. Married hot cop sidepiece Nate, that is. He tells Annalise that he told his wife about their affair and apparently she’s cool with it. He’s quite shady and suspicious though, and probably up to something.
Meanwhile, Connor continues trying to reconnect with his punching bag Oliver. After some convincing, Oliver agrees to watch a movie with him in his apartment, but they must sit on opposite ends of the couch.
The gang discovers Jackie kept the baby she said was dead. Annalise confronts her, and the woman says the baby is her little girl and she loves her. She then gives Annalise an ultimatum. Get her a plea deal, and she’ll tell her where the baby is.
Annalise tells her the DA is granting her plea and she tells her the baby is located in a cabin her aunt owned.
Laurel and the baby lawyers hang out on Annalise’s front porch at night for some reason. Laurel decides a group therapy session is in order for them to get over the murder. Connor wants no part of this and tells Laurel he refuses to tell her anything about his life. She then tells the gang if they aren’t honest with each other, they’ll end up getting caught.
Hannah walks onto the porch and introduces herself, then asks the gang to do the same. They all look at each other terrified, which surely raises her suspensions.
At a New Year’s Eve party, Michaela accuses her fiancé Aiden of sleeping with a guy, simply because he was talking to him. Aiden is understandably upset and tells her he wants to postpone the wedding. She begs him not to but he’s over it, and proverbially drops the mic and walks off.
Annalise talks to Jackie, who is excited about her plea deal, but Annalise informs her that she lied to her about the plea deal and she’s going to jail forever basically.
Back in Annalise’s office, she thanks Frank for giving the police the fake lead Hannah believed about the woman claiming to have seen Sam.
Later, Hannah is having dinner at Annalise’s house, and Annalise comes into the dining room. Hannah confronts her about her affair with Nate and Sam’s disappearance. Annalise tells her some truths, but overall doesn’t reveal much, especially the part about Sam being dead and her helping her law students who murdered him cover it up.
The episode ends in true Shonda Rhimes fashion, as Wes returns to his apartment where Rebecca is at her computer freaking out. She tells Wes they have a major problem, as the computer screen is shown and it’s a video of a newswoman saying police have found what they believe to be the remains of Sam’s body.
