As Thanksgiving is tomorrow, Baton Rouge food banks are preparing for the big day.
CEO of Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Mike Manning says that Thanksgiving is the busiest time of the year for his organization.
“We do see an influx of volunteers leading up to Thanksgiving but especially during Thanksgiving week,” Manning said.
Volunteers pack boxes of non-perishable food items to be picked up by people tonight, so Thanksgiving day can be enjoyable.
“We’ve pretty much provided the food and got it out to the agencies, so then it’s pretty much up to them to make it happen on Thanksgiving day,” Manning said.
Volunteers such as student Jennifer Lee have taken time out of their breaks to volunteer at the food bank.
“Some people have been here almost everyday this week,” Lee said. “I’ve been here last Friday and Today.”
Lee says that volunteering at the food bank allows her to feel like she is giving back to her community.
“It’s fun just doing something for the community, even if it is just packing cans into boxes,” Lee said.
Organizations like the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank give many less-fortunate people something to be thankful for during Thanksgiving.
