LSU placed its chapter of the Sigma Chi fraternity on interim suspension, said LSU Media Relations Director Ernie Ballard.
This suspension is a result of “incidents that have occurred regarding the incident on October 17, 2015 involving use of controlled substances in the Chapter House and potential hazing,” according to a letter sent from Student Advocacy and Accountability to the Sigma Chi president.
The letter, received November 3, describes the terms of the interim suspension.
New and initiated members may not discuss the investigation. The chapter may not conduct meetings or host or participate in any social activities.
In order to hold a chapter function, the chapter president and advisor must inform the University in writing 24 hours prior.
The chapter may continue to “participate in any intramural activities” and “hold meals at the house.”
LSU is not considering moving the men out of the Chapter House at this time.
“LSU takes any and all reports of incidents seriously and will not tolerate violations of our students’ well being and safety,” said Kurt Keppler, LSU vice president for student life and enrollment. “We are implementing a thorough investigation and accountability process regarding Sigma Chi. We also appreciate the work being done by the national fraternity organization to ensure these types of incidents don’t occur and their quick action taken if an issue arises.”
The investigation in ongoing. More details to come.
