A recent study found that 77% of college students use Snapchat at least once per day, according to Mashable.com.
“I think when you’re in college, you think since you’re not out there in the real world what you’re putting online doesn’t matter yet,” Karli Willis, LSU Admissions Marketing and Communications student worker, said.
Posting to social media can impact the life of college students, both present and in the future.
“Online presence is permanent, I strongly recommend that you think before you post,” Ben Marcel, CEO of digital marketing agency and IT support company, Wireless IQ, said.
Marcel said that even with temporary social media sites, such a Snapchat, once content is posted online, it’s ultimately there forever.
For some students, this permanency can be negative, but for others its positively impacted their career.
“That’s what’s so great about it, you can make your own career from it,” Willis said, “Me and my mom started a blog and through that we’ve been offered a lot of business deals.”
Willis said she’s used multiple social media platforms to promote her and her mom’s love of passion.
