A text message alert went out today at 10:16 a.m. warning students at Mississippi State University (MSU) to take shelter due to an active shooter at Carpenter Hall on the campus.
Eight minutes later, the school tweeted that the suspect was in custody. Although there are no reports of casualties at this time, students are still advised to remain in a safe place.

The MSU Police Department and the Mississippi Highway Patrol confirm that they are still treating it as an active scene. University Police said that they had no update and were fielding numerous calls from nervous parents.
Troop G of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, which is based in Starkville, also said that they were concentrating most of the unit’s resources on campus.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol, Troop G in Starkville stated that the scene is still active and that most of their officers are on the scene.
No injuries have been reported.
The MSU police state that the situation is still ongoing, but gave no further comment.
