It was rough weekend for LSU volleyball in Austin, Texas.
The Tigers lost all three matches in the American Campus Classic in Gregory Gym at the University of Texas.
In its first match of the season, LSU lost to UC Irvine 25-22, 27-25, 22-25, 25-14, on Friday afternoon — including 34 ties and 14 lead changes. The Lady Tigers (0-3) were defeated due to inefficient offense, hitting merely .191 compared to the Anteaters’ .292 in the match.
UCI finished the match with 12 more kills than LSU, 62, and three fewer errors than the Tigers.
In match two, Rice defeated LSU in a five-set match finishing at 24-26, 21-25, 25-17, 25-16, 15-10. The Lady Tigers took a two-set lead to start the event, but went down in three straight to the Owls to lose their second of the season.
LSU started the match hitting at an outstanding percentage-rate, over .300. By the end of the match, the Lady Tigers collapsed — hitting under .100, finishing the match at .142 compared to Rice’s .226.
Senior outside hitter Cati Leak lead the team with her second double-double of the weekend in kills and digs.
In the third and most recent match, LSU was defeated by No. 3 Texas in its home gym.
The Longhorns finished the Tigers in three sets, 25-12, 25-22, 25-21.
The Lady Tigers began the competition slow, as it was their second match of the day and third in 24 hours, but gathered themselves in the second and third sets. In the end, their efforts weren’t enough to knock off the third-ranked Longhorns.
LSU begins a week of practice before heading to Athens, Ohio to compete in the Bobcat Invitational — featuring a doubleheader Friday against Ohio and Michigan. On Saturday, the Lady Tigers will play Xavier (Ohio) to round out the weekend.
