When the newly second-ranked LSU Gymnastics team travels to Texas this weekend, it will be a #1 vs. #2 showdown against top-ranked Oklahoma in the Lone Star state.
Going into the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, The Lady Tigers enter with the nation’s second best season average with a 197.025, trailing the #1 Sooners by only three tenths. LSU is currently ranked first overall on the balance beam, and second overall on the uneven bars.
“I think it’s going to be a great measuring stick,” said LSU head coach D-D Breaux.
Individually, three Tigers are featured in the all-around rankings. Going into this weekend, Jessie Jordan is ranked third in the nation, Rheagan Courville sixth, and Ashleigh Gnat is 11th.
Jordan is ranked #1 nationally on beam with a 9.917 average, Courville sits second in the nation on bars, and Lloimincia Hall second as well on the floor.
“We know that we have so much more to come this season, and we know how well we train and how much confidence we build everyday we’re in the gym,” said senior Rheagan Courville.
The Tigers are looking forward to Saturday’s Challenge as a chance to measure themselves against some of the nations best as three of four teams featured are nationally ranked, including the #8 Arkansas Razorbacks
“It’s an opportunity for us to showcase our program and everything that we do so well in front of kids and a huge market for recruiting,” Breaux said. “Our brand is beautiful, it’s athletic, it’s powerful, it’s graceful, and it’s all of those things.”
After Saturday’s 1 vs. 2 “Meet of the Century”, LSU returns home to the PMAC February 6th to take on another ranked SEC foe, the #11 Georgia Bulldogs.
