After leading the LSU women’s basketball team to back-to-back wins against ranked Southeastern Conference opponents last week, junior guard Danielle Ballard was named SEC and ESPNW Player of the Week on Monday.
In the Lady Tigers’ (10-8, 4-2 SEC) upsets of No. 15 Mississippi State and No. 10 Kentucky, Ballard averaged a team-leading 24.5 points per game, including a combined 30 points in the second half or overtime periods.
Against No. 15 Mississippi State on Thursday night, Ballard took over the game in the first overtime period, scoring all eight of the Lady Tigers’ points..
With the Lady Tigers down three points with three seconds left on the clock, Ballard hit a 3-pointer to push the game into double overtime.
In the second overtime, Ballard sealed the game with a jumper with 56 seconds remaining.
Against No. 10 Kentucky, Ballard led the Lady Tigers with 25 points, which tied her career high, along with a season-high five assists and five steals.
The Lady Tigers will head to Knoxville, Tennessee, on Thursday night to take on the Lady Vols with hopes to extend their conference winning streak to three games.
