Judy Garland is a Hollywood icon.
She’s made herself known with memorable roles such as Dorothy Gale in “The Wizard of Oz” and Hannah Brown in “Easter Parade.”
“Easter Parade” revolves around nightclub performer, Don Hewes played by Fred Astaire, who hires Brown as his chorus girl to cause jealousy in his old partner. He also plans on making Brown a star.
Garland’s “Easter Parade” costumes match perfectly to the 1940’s decade— feminine and bright.
To incorporate Garland’s outfits into a modern wardrobe involves taking the style figuratively instead of literally. This means taking color or silhouette elements instead of actively attempting to recreate the outfit.
One element to incorporate is pastel.
Garland wears pastel pink, yellow and blue through the film. Pastels are an easy color option to add to your wardrobe— especially heading into the spring months. Pair pastel with pastel, like with a skirt and top, to fully recreate Garland’s look. Another option is to pair one pastel item with a darker color like dark denim or black leggings.
Whatever option you pick, the pastels will liven up a neutral outfit just like Garland’s bright smile.
Another key element is Garland’s feminine silhouettes.
While some of her outfits are very dated to the 40’s decade, certain elements are still seen in clothing today. The best examples are ruffles and chiffon.
These elements are easy to find in today’s stores. Try a chiffon dress or a ruffled camisole paired with jeans. Combine both elements by choosing something with ruffles or chiffon in a pastel hue.
Either way, make sure to include Brown’s signature red lip and bouncy ponytail.
