British band The Vamps released their newest album “Wake Up” on Nov. 27 and it’s nothing out of the ordinary for them.
They have the pop sound of One Direction mixed with the sound of an independent artist like Dylan Gardner. However, the band does show growth in the songs’ topics.
Multiple relationships is the primary topic of this album with the bandmates going through cheating, breaking up, getting back together and lesbians.
The lyrics of “I Found A Girl” show the singer really likes this girl until he makes a move and she said she’s “not into bacon”. Just in case that didn’t get the message accross, the singer then bellows out “she said I was nice but she’s not into guys.” The song continues to say he’ll never give up on her. This song is an original compared to many other pop songs out there.
The Vamps are comprised of men in their 20s and it’s obvious their music needs maturity.
While focusing on songs about girls is common for a boy band because it creates a mythical relationship between the female listeners and band members it’s getting old and the band needs to try something new to stand out.
The album comes with 12 songs of love and loss and the “Wake Up (Deluxe)” version comes with three extra songs.
It’s difficult to tell if the album will have any hits with all of the music having a similar sound. The bland songs do give it a sense of continuation or flow but it’s not life changing.
As a newer band, the constant release of new music could be hindering their creative process, which would explain the simplicity of the songs. In the past two years they have released two albums and more than a few singles all with the same sound.
This is a band that could potentially be the new One Direction in the future if they aren’t careful. Just like the British-based band, they’re starting out with swoon worthy songs for young girls and by the time they’ll want to change, the band will have disintegrated before the listener’s ears.
