There are mixed feelings about the plus-minus grading scale that was implemented at the beginning of the semester.
“It’s kind of like you
round yourself up and there’s less groups for you to match yourself with so as far as how close will it affect how much I actually know it’ll probably be closer to what’s actually right but I don’t necessarily like it,” says LSU freshman Casey Fitzmaurice.
“It makes it a
lot more stressful and it does affect your grades because in the end it makes your GPA worse rather than help it. It’s not gonna look good on my resumes to have a lower GPA,” says LSU sophomore Ashley Boudreaux
Students are fr
ustrated with how close a B+ is to an A-, deciding the tenths of points between them is not worth it and aiming for the lower grade.
“I’m not going to try to make that push. I’ve always been on that cusp between a B and an A but now I see no point to jump to get a B or jump to get an A because it’s only .3 points away,” says LSU senior Charlton Tramel
“The only reason the plus minus system would be bad is if we got an A-. Because an A+ is a 4.3 and that’s sweet and an A is always an A so if you fall on the bottom end of that curb it’s horrible for you,” says LSU senior David Capooci
Students with any questions about the grading scale can visit the University Registrar website.
The main thing students can do now to improve their grades is to study hard, and hope that the curve is in their favor.
