In two days, Student Government’s spring election will be over and the successor to current SG president Cody Wells will be chosen.
The tickets advancing to Monday and Tuesday’s presidential runoff are Taylor Cox and Carrie Hebert’s Be Heard and Landon Hester and Kristina Lagasse’s Your LSU.
The Daily Reveille corresponded with the candidates via e-mail to take a final look at each ticket’s stances. Students can vote on PAWS or myLSU today and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 6:59 p.m.
Which initiative of your opponent’s do you admire most?
Taylor Cox, Be Heard: Both Carrie and I really admire Your LSU’s initiative to make Student Government a more transparent organization.
Kristina Lagasse, Your LSU: To create an LSU community spirit program. We believe in taking pride in our University.
Which initiative of your opponent’s do you dislike the most?
Cox, Be Heard: While we admire the merit in everyone’s initiatives, we believe that the printable eBooks initiative is counter-intuitive. It’s not a sustainable effort and defeats the purpose of having an actual electronic book.
Lagasse, Your LSU: We don’t dislike any ideas that people want to improve our campus – it’s Your LSU.
What are three ways to fight budget cuts besides letter writing and protesting on the steps of the Capitol?
Cox, Be Heard: 1. Build relationships with the legislators. 2. Relay the impact LSU has on the entire state of Louisiana. We must show everyone from Monroe to Thibodaux what LSU has to offer. 3. Work with administrators to strategically plan so that any cuts we may endure have a lesser impact on the student’s academic experience.
Lagasse: We will work to expand the budget task force. Landon will run for the Board of Supervisors’ seat to represent LSU. Building personal relationships with legislators.
Why should a student vote for you instead of your opponent?
Cox: We are driven, we are passionate and we are the most diverse ticket.
Lagasse: We will hit the ground running to ensure students are best represented by Student Government.
What specific quality do you have that your opponent doesn’t?
Cox: Compassion.
Lagasse: Determination, hands down.
