The LSU soccer team earned its fourth consecutive Southeastern Conference Western Division title, but it couldn’t make any noise in the postseason.
LSU lost to Auburn in the regular season, 3-1, and again in the first round of the SEC Tournament, getting blanked, 3-0. The loss snapped a streak of four straight seasons advancing to the SEC Tournament semifinal for LSU.
LSU provided two of the five conference wins for Auburn, which finished second in the SEC West.
Another team that caused trouble for the Tigers in the past was Texas A&M, which beat LSU on penalty kicks in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge.
LSU drew the No. 21 Aggies in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, and fell to them again in a 4-0 defeat in the final match for five Tiger seniors.
Taryne Boudreau, Allysha Chapman, Mo Isom, Natalie Martineau and Kellie Murphy all ended their careers with a second-place finish in the final SEC standings for the third time in four years. The Tigers finished at 13-8-1 and 8-3 in conference.
LSU’s senior class tied the 2008 class with a team-record 50 wins in four seasons. It was a disappointing finish for a promising end of the regular season, with the Tigers shutting out their last two opponents entering the SEC Tournament.
“What else can you say about this senior class and the contribution they have made to this program during their time with us?” Lee said after the Texas A&M match. “I’m really proud of how each of these seniors has developed in their time in the program.”
The Tigers were 13-5-1 in Isom’s 19 starts at goalkeeper, notching a goals-against average of 1.07. She would move on from her final season of soccer to become LSU’s homecoming queen, and she later tried out to be the kicker of LSU’s football team.
Boudreau’s 12 goals were three times as many as any other Tiger, finishing tied for third in the conference in the category. She became the sixth Tiger to earn First-Team
All-SEC honors with her senior year performance. Martineau and sophomore forward Addie Eggleston tied for second on the Tigers with four goals apiece.
