There’s really only one item of importance to cover today.
1. Wii U
Could you believe it’s been six years since the last console launch?
Nintendo launched the Wii U this Sunday and, just like the Wii, it sold out immediately. Game Stop, Game Ware, Wal-Mart and Best Buy were all sold out in Baton Rouge, and similarly across the nation. Units are already going for $500 on eBay.
But in case you’re trying to get one before Christmas, here’s everything you need to know.
The System
There are two models of the Wii U: Basic and Deluxe. Basic comes with 8 GB of flash memory, a Wii U console and a GamePad. Deluxe includes the same, but with 32 GB of memory and the game “Nintendoland”
The GamePad is Nintendo’s new “revolutionary controller.” Standard game controls are placed around a large touchscreen, similar to the bottom part of a Nintendo 3DS.
It’s a surprisingly effective control scheme, and the tablet controller is quite comfortable to hold. But for games that require more traditional input, a Pro controller is available.
Launch Titles
The Wii U offers 23 titles at launch, not including downloadable games. The obvious standouts are “New Super Mario Bros. U,” “Batman: Arkham Asylum” and “Scribblenauts Unlimited” and for good reason — each is a sequel to an already successful franchise, and, in the case of “Arkham Asylum,” is a remake of a game released earlier this year.
“ZombiU” was supposed to be a strong title, but review aggregate Metacritic has it at a 72/100 right now. So it’s good, not great.

If you manage to snag a Wii U before Christmas, count yourself lucky. It’s expected to act just like the Wii — basically be sold out for a year.
That’s all the news for this week! There won’t be a Thursday edition because Thanksgiving, duh. But make sure to check back next Tuesday for the latest and greatest in tech.
Happy Turkey Day, everyone!
