Don’t be fooled by the feedback-heavy opening of “Gotsta Get Paid.” With multiple distorted guitars flying off in all directions from the get-go, Billy Gibbons’ ancient, raspy voice complements the weight of the dense blues rock well. But it isn’t long before the record descends into cliché blues riffs, formula lyrics and other weathered-down versions of ZZ Top’s ‘80s style — which certainly wasn’t the group’s best. The old fellas break from that elderly style for the last three tracks with some fun guitar breaks and drumming from Frank Beard. All in all, if you’re in the mood for some good ZZ Top, at least four songs on La Futura will fill that need.
