“My biggest problem with the NBA though is that it’s not as fun to watch as college basketball. I’m not talking about the game itself because I’ve seen exciting NBA games. I’m talking about the quite unattractive players.”– Madison Murphy
Tragically, the NBA missed an opportunity years ago. NBA Commissioner David Stern, in a widely publicized 2010 meeting, met with PLAYGIRL Magazine to discuss a merger of sorts. In the end, the career offer of Enzyte to the league’s players could not sway them away from the $2.3 billion per year they share.
It’s sad really, the NBA had an opportunity to drop the guard of being the league containing the greatest basketball players in the world and, with that, the premium in play. I guess we’ll never know what could’ve been if the NBA cared more about sex appeal than professionalism. We’ll have to reserve the Brian Scalabrine foldout spread to the confines of our imagination-and this fact has held me in a melancholic stupor for each day that has passed.
On a serious note, let’s have a thought experiment: if you were to publicly use the same logic on any women’s sport, what would happen? You would have to go into hiding due to the public upheaval that would ensue.
Sports are not about sex, they are about the game-if you miss that you miss the point of athletics in general. Your line of reasoning, even in jest, has no place other than the confines of a close circle of friends and let us pray they are too busy watching the game to hear your point.
