Chappo has no qualms in throwing a party on a Monday night. On a hot, humid, energy draining evening, the Brooklyn based space-rock outfit combined pop, indie, psychedelic elements and crazy on-stage antics to launch a spirited show. Baton Rouge’s synth-pop stars Prom Date opened with a tin-foil back drop that reflected some of the group’s sparkling dress as well as the almost pink lighting, setting an appropriate ambiance. The addition of a female vocalist played well with the group’s fun synth-y vibes and lent a nice addition to its consistently solid shows. A cover of “Video Kill the Radio Star” proved an appropriate close out. Chappo took the stage in Native American garb – feathered bandoleers, moccasins and bare feet. As the group prepared, ambient sounds permeated the room like the accompanying smoke, a steady base drum sounded through the building and Baton Rouge native Alex Chappo handed out confetti shooting sticks. “Just save it for a great moment,” he suggested. A crash of percussions officially kick started the show, quickly followed by flying confetti. Throughout the set Chappo busted balloons, flailed around his mike stand, yelled through a loud speaker and danced in a zombie-like clunk.
