The Louisiana State Police confirmed a shutdown of I-10 between Siegen Lane and Highland Road.
A state trooper said a call came in around 3:40 p.m. because of a possible hazardous material release.
A private vehicle was emitting ammonia, though the trooper could not confirm reports it was a mobile methamphetamine lab.
The trooper spoke on the condition of anonymity because he is not an official police spokesperson.
I-10 was shut down around 4 p.m. and will open within the next 30 minutes.
Traffic is backed up all the way to Bluebonnet Boulevard, according to interstate cameras on the Department of Transportation and Development.
