After recessing for deliberations, University Trial Court judge Rob Dowie issued a double-ruling regarding complaints filed contesting the the eligibility of Colorado Robertson and Shannon Bates to serve as the 2008-2009 Student Government president and vice president. Dowie said not only does the Student Government Election Code violate the SG Constitution, but the code contains two contradictory articles. “It seems to me we have been doing things wrong in Student Government for a very long time,” Dowie said. “And in all reality this kind of throws a huge wrench into the system.” Dowie said Jeffrey Noel’s complaints contesting the election results will be heard by the University Trial Court, not the SG Election Board. He said the SG Election Board does not have the authority. Dowie also annulled Article III, Section 2, clause B of the SG Election Code on grounds that it contradicted another article. He said because of the contradictory articles, Noel was justified in the timeframe in which he submitted the complaints to SG Elections Commissioner Jacob Gower. The University Trial Court will hear Noel’s seven complaints regarding inaccurate expenditure reports within 24 hours.
