LSU junior quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will have full team membership Sunday after accusations of an alleged verbal altercation at Kona Grill.
LSU coach Les Miles said he is responsible for his team, but did not confirm nor deny the incident.
“I investigate all those things. I call everybody. I get every piece of information I can,” Miles said.
Miles said he called the restaurant to get information about the March 31 incident between Perrilloux and Kona Grill employees.
“I have a great feel for what went on,” Miles said. “It was represented to me pretty honestly, I would think.”
He said Perrilloux is serving a “pretty serious punishment – public scrutiny and not being with his team.”
Bringing Perrilloux to the practice field would be unfair to him and unfair to the players who have been competing for the quarterback position, Miles said.
Perrilloux will not play in the Tigers’ spring game Saturday.
“We have guys competing for the [quarterback] position,” Miles said. “If and when they achieve to a position better and more responsibly than the guy that’s on the sideline, they can start.”
Miles said it is a pretty severe punishment if “the guy who should well be taking every snap at quarterback for the first team’s sitting on the sidelines watching and not being able to compete.”
He said “the team will not pay that price.”
Miles said it is not fun to come up with penalties and disciplines for players who misbehave, but he said it comes with the job.
“I go right in and find out and try to draw my own conclusion,” Miles said.
He said he checks, corroborates and takes his time for every story about his players.
“So many times, my resources are better than most because I could talk to the players that were there without the issue of whether they’re in trouble or not,” Miles said.
Freshman linebacker suspended
LSU freshman linebacker Shomari Clemons was issued a misdemeanor summons early Sunday morning for simple battery of a police officer, disturbing the peace and resisting an officer, The Advocate reported April 2.
Sgt. Don Kelly told The Advocate that Clemons grabbed the officer’s waist “as if he were going for a weapon.”
Clemons has been suspended from the football team indefinitely, LSU Sports Information Director Michael Bonnette told The Advocate. “We’re going to let the investigation take its place,” Miles said. “More information will be coming in later, we’re told.”
