“Go to hell Ole Miss,” is a message Tiger fans have shared with the Rebels in Death Valley and at The Grove alike. But now LSU and Ole Miss Student Governments are making a mark in Southeastern Conference traditions by asking students to vote for one of five possible names for the rivalry game to don.
The Nov. 22 game will be played in Tiger Stadium, and will be dubbed one of the following: “Southern Showdown,” “Southern Shoot-Out,” “Duel Under The Oaks,” “Magnolia Classic” or “Magnolia Bowl.” The victorious team will bring home a signature trophy to be passed to the followingyear’s winning team, comparable to the “Boot” trophy shared between LSU and Arkansas and the “Tiger Rag” given to the winner of LSU match-ups against Tulane, according to a broadcast e-mail from LSUStudent Government leaders.
Students can vote for one of the five possible names by e-mailing NameThatRivalry@gmail.com or by visiting the Student Government table in the Quad from 2 to 6 p.m. today, where free snowballs will also be given to students.
The possible names were narrowed down from suggestions submitted by both the Ole Miss and LSU student bodies.
