East Baton Rouge Parish is under a flash flood warning as of 5:40 p.m., according to the National Weather Service Web site.
This warning includes the cities of Baton Rouge, Zachary, Baker, and Oak Hills Place.
The warning also said “excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams … highways and underpasses.
NWS warns people not to drive a vehicle into areas where the water covers the road because flood waters are usually deeper than they appear.
A flash flood warning means that a flood is “imminent and occurring.”
NWS encourages people to move to higher ground if you are living in an affected area.
Six buildings on LSU’s campus have already flooded: Choppin Hall, Hodges Hall, Himes Hall, the Life Sciences Building, Lockett Hall and Patrick F. Taylor Hall (formerly the CEBA building).
NWS also issued a tornado watch for several Louisiana parishes – East Baton Rouge included – earlier this afternoon that will be in effect until 9:00 p.m.
