Eric Reimsnyder, finance sophomore and two-time rock-paper-scissors champion in high school, entered the University’s first rock-paper-scissors tournament Saturday expecting to win. “I’m certainly the favorite,” Reimsnyder said. He was not kidding either. Reimsnyder’s rock beat his opponent’s scissors in the center of the PMAC court during the final round of the competition to become the champion. “It’s just another notch in my belt,” he said. LSU Athletics marketing and promotions held the tournament to build student support for the LSU vs. Ole Miss men’s basketball game. Each round was a two-out-of-three competition, and the final four players finished the tournament during the half-time of the basketball game. Tyler Alderman, kinesiology freshman and tournament participant, said his strategy for the tournament was “scissors all the way.” Reimsnyder said his winning strategy was “confidential.” He was awarded $200 in TigerCASH, and everyone who participated received a free bottle of Vitamin Water, said Cole Price, LSU marketing and promotions intern and management junior. The competition was judged by the Tiger Girls. Kristen Hebert, biological sciences senior and Tiger Girl, said they were there to make sure everyone followed the rules. “We don’t want cheaters,” she said. The event suffered from a lack of participation with only about a dozen competitors. Price said he thinks it was because the tournament competed with the opening series of baseball season. He also said he thinks $200 may not have been enticing enough. The original brackets, which could accommodate 128 players, had to be altered to just two brackets.
