Mike Montoro, West Virginia director of football communications, said Wednesday that LSU has entered into talks with West Virginia about potentially scheduling games against each other in the future.”No contract has been signed,” he said. “There’s nothing concrete.”LSU Senior Associate Athletic Director Verge Ausberry also confirmed Wednesday evening the two schools have spoken about facing each other.”That is one of the teams we’ve spoken to,” Ausberry said.Ausberry said LSU has talked to several BCS schools about future matchups, but no concrete information on a possible matchup will be made until a deal is in place.”I don’t like to say anything until the other school says something,” Ausberry said. The Charleston Daily Mail reported Wednesday the two schools would play a home-and-home series in 2010 and 2011, with West Virginia coming to LSU in 2010. Neither LSU nor West Virginia would confirm to The Daily Reveille a possible year for the agreement.”Nothing’s final,” Ausberry said. “A lot of moving is taking place.”A contest with West Virginia would vastly improve — on paper — LSU’s out-of-conference schedule. The Tigers have only one non-Southeastern Conference BCS conference opponent — Washington — scheduled in the next four seasons. The Huskies will host LSU in the 2009 season opener on Sept. 5.LSU has played only three non-SEC BCS conference schools in the regular season under coach Les Miles — Arizona, Arizona State and Virginia Tech. The Tigers are 3-0 in those games.—-Contact Robert Stewart at [email protected]
