NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A vessel auditor said Monday the towing company involved in a major oil spill that shut down the Mississippi River for six days this summer had not been able to produce key safety documents before the July accident. At a Coast Guard hearing on the crash, auditor Fred Budwine said DRD Towing Co. could not provide documents to stay in compliance with a trade organization’s boat safety requirements. The company was allowed to stay in the safety program despite the lack of documentation but was kicked out after the accident.—-Conact The Daily Reveille’s news staff at [email protected]
