At 10:05 p.m., a power-outage on the southwest side of campus plunged students into darkness for about an hour.
University officials were also in the dark about the blackout but resolved the problem at 11:07 p.m. Rusty Jabour, University spokesman, said facilities personnel were on the scene and estimated that power would be restored within the hour. LSU Police Department told Kristine Calongne, assistant director of public affairs, that the outage stretched over to Burbank Drive and was not isolated to the campus area.
The outage affected 20 percent of campus, including Broussard and Pentagon Residence Halls, West Campus Apartments and the student media offices in Hodges Hall. While generators powered lights in hallways, many students gathered in the Broussard lobby or found shelter in nearby Graham Hall. Facility Services told Calongne the outage was caused by “feeder number 8,” which powers the southwest portion of campus.
