Former LSU Lady Tigers Seimone Augustus and Sylvia Fowles were named to the 2008 United States’ Women’s Olympic basketball team, USA basketball announced Saturday.
Augustus and Fowles, both now in the WNBA, were among nine players named to the team.
Three-time Olympic gold medalist Lisa Leslie and two-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Smith headline the team.
2004 Olympic gold medalists Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi and Tina Thompson were also among the nine players named to the team.
Former Tennessee star Candace Parker and Cappie Pondexter join Augustus and Fowles as first-time participants in Olympic play.
The team will consist of 12 players, and the roster will be finalized July 1.
