The LSU Board of Supervisors hopes to resolve conflicts kindled by the chairman-elect selection at today’s meeting.Blake Chatelain of Alexandria is expected to become the new chairman-elect after months of disagreement stemming from accusations disputing Gov. Bobby Jindal’s involvement in the Board’s leadership selection.Alvin Kimble of Baton Rouge was expected to become the new chairman-elect in August, but John George of Shreveport added his name to the ballot days before the election. The August meeting resulted in an 8-8 vote split between Kimble and George, and voting was postponed at the October meeting because the Board expected another tie vote. Kimble, along with other Board members, blamed the Jindal administration for persuading members to vote for George.Chairman James Roy of Lafayette said the vote would remain 8-8 until a compromise candidate could be agreed upon.”Dr. George and Mr. Kimble are to be commended for putting LSU as an institution above any personal admission,” Roy said. “They have both clearly endorsed the candidacy of Blake Chatelain.”RECOMMENDATION TO PPROVE A POSTHUMOUS DEGREEThe Manship School of Mass Communication will seek approval to award a posthumous degree to Luke Bashore at today’s meeting.Bashore, who was scheduled to graduate in May 2009, was killed in a car accident last summer in Virginia. Bashore had 22 credit hours remaining to complete his degree requirements.”We hold great sympathy for his family and friends,” said Manship School Dean John Hamilton in a letter to the Board. “The awarding of a bachelor’s degree is in the culmination of a dream that Luke has had for many years.”The Manship School faculty voted unanimously to award the degree.Recommendation to Approve the Installation of New Artificial Surface on Football Practice FieldThe Tiger Athletic Foundation will request approval to enter into an agreement for the installment of a new artificial surface on a football practice field at the Football Operations Center.
