The Office of Recruiting Services has redesigned the tour for prospective students to now begin at Memorial Tower.
Andy Benoit, director of Recruiting Services, said tours started using the Memorial Tower as a starting point in February because it is a more easily recognized campus landmark. Tours previously started at Pleasant Hall.
Patricia Howard, administrative programs specialist for Recruiting Services, boasted about the newly renovated Memorial Tower.
“The clock tower is both beautiful and historical,” Howard said.
Howard said Memorial Tower is a good starting point because it is an easily recognizable building on campus. Howard said Pleasant Hall was sometimes hard for visitors to find.
Drew Prestridge, a tour guide for Recruiting Services, said the tour takes the prospective students by the Quad, the Union, Tiger Stadium and other buildings where many classes are taken. Prestridge, mass communication freshman, said bits of history are incorporated into the tour.
“Prospective students can see a variety of places on campus, and the tour is designed to provide a familiarity for the student on campus,” Benoit said.
The walking tour is part of an information session that transfer and prospective students and their parents attend to learn about the University. Benoit said these sessions showcase what the University has to offer.
University students conduct the campus tour, and Benoit said the tour guides are often students who are involved with many organizations on campus.
Prospective students also have the opportunity to participate in a Residential Life tour and academic appointments with faculty members from the students’ fields of interest.
Howard said this week has been busier than normal for visitors because it is spring break in Texas. He said Recruiting Services is expecting 32 prospective students and their families Friday.
Howard said attendance for tours depends on the holiday schedules of high schools.
“Whoever calls is welcome to come and join us,” Howard said.
