Skip Bertman, athletic director, released a statement after information regarding an investigation into the LSU baseball team and housing benefits surfaced today.
In the statement Bertman said during the transitions between Smoke Laval, who resigned as head coach in June, and Paul Mainieri, who began work in July, “inconsistencies in the management of housing arrangements” arose.
The Advocate reported today that an internal investigation was taking place regarding reduced price off campus housing awarded to baseball players.
Bertman said Chris Howard, the associate director for compliance, will be conducting the investigation.
“[Howard] has been given full latitude to determine the extent of these circumstances,” Bertman said. “He will question as many people as possible and travel as many places as necessary to conduct this review while communicating with the SEC and NCAA office to bring a close to this matter.”
Bertman’s statement:
LSU Baseball has achieved great success on the foundation of excellence and integrity. But during the course of the transition of coaching staffs, we discovered some inconsistencies in the management of housing arrangements for our baseball players.
In instances such as this, it is the responsibility of the compliance director to determine if any violations of NCAA regulations have occurred.
Chris Howard (Associate AD for Compliance) has been given full latitude to determine the extent of these circumstances.
He will question as many people as possible and travel as many places as necessary to conduct this review while communicating with the SEC and NCAA offices to bring a close to this matter. I appeal to all LSU baseball players, past and present, to fully cooperate with Chris in this review.
