University officials asked Kevin Mulcahy, political science professor, to return to work after being placed on administrative leave.
The Baton Rouge Police Department issued him a misdemeanor summons Sept. 15 on a count of peeping Tom.
Kristine Calongne, Office of Public Affairs media relations director, said the decision was “based on the University’s initial review of the case.”
Mulcahy said he learned he was placed on administrative leave from The Daily Reveille Web site and was only told by the University the next day.
Mulcahy said that in conversations with his superiors, he welcomed the opportunity to return to his duties immediately as requested by the University. He reiterated his innocence and said he is very proud to have the opportunity once again to serve the people of this state as a teacher and a scholar, which he has done for 26 years.
The University placed Mulcahy under administrative leave last week after he was accused of following a student, whose name is being withheld, to his apartment.
Drew Louviere, Mulcahy’s lawyer, said the professor intends to return to the University today.
“Professor Mulcahy is innocent of the charges, and the incident has been grossly exaggerated,” Louviere said.
Marian Caillier, Office of Human Resource Management assistant vice chancellor, said the University temporarily reassigned Mulcahy’s classes to other instructors during his absence.
According to the police report, Mulcahy refused to answer why he was looking through the victim’s window.
The police report also states that Mulcahy called a friend to pick him up because he had been drinking.
