University students and faculty members now have more opportunities to check their e-mail on campus with the January addition of 15 e-mail kiosks in some buildings.
The kiosks, which were added in CEBA, Choppin Hall, Tureaud Hall and the School of Music building, resemble those that were added about four years ago to the LSU Union and University Recreation Center.
Stacey Morales, manager in Information Technology Services, said the kiosks were funded with $50,000 from the Student Tech Fee. Morales said about 12 to 15 additional kiosks will be added before the end of 2006.
“I have walked around and [the kiosks] have all been in use,” Morales said. “We want to expand this concept.”
Caitlin Casselman, history freshman, used one of the e-mail kiosks before her English class in Coates.
“This is my second time using [a kiosk],” Casselman said. “I didn’t know they were here, and I just walked by and saw them.”
Casselman said she was frustrated because of the long lines for using kiosks at the Union and used the new kiosk because she values quick e-mail access.
“I think that they’re a little bit slower than normal computers,” Casselman said. “But they’re convenient.”
