The Internet now brings more than news, Facebook.com and pornography.
Following in the footsteps of Internet radio stations such as Cincinnati’s WOXY.com, Sirius radio now offers its full satellite radio schedule for subscription on the Internet.
Steve Blatter, senior vice president for music programming at Sirius, said he does not think opening Internet radio to the public will hurt its satellite radio subscriptions in any way.
“The Internet version of Sirius has only been available for a couple of weeks,” Blatter said. “I do think that for people who don’t have cars but want to hear what we believe is the best radio programming in the world can now do that at home.”
Sirius radio is the University’s partner radio, meaning all sporting events are broadcasted on Sirius radio. Blatter said Sirius’ Internet radio will be particularly useful to University students.
“I think college students in particular are heavy computer users and tend to spend a lot of time online,” Blatter said. “This is what we believe is a great opportunity for Sirius to make its programming available in an easy way.”
