Sportsillustrated.com reported early Tuesday that LSU junior forward Glen Davis would forgo his final season of eligibility and enter this year’s NBA Draft.
The Web site later recanted its earlier report and said the 6-foot-9-inch, 295-pound big man was only “leaning toward going pro.”
“I’m collecting the facts this weekend to make sure the situation is good enough to enter the draft,” Davis told the Web site. “If I like what I hear, I’m going pro, but the option of coming back to school for my senior year is still open.”
Davis told The Daily Reveille at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday that the reports on Sportsillustrated.com and other news outlets are not true.
“It’s all wrong … all rumors,” Davis said. “I haven’t made my decision yet.”
LSU coach John Brady said in a news release that he met with Davis on Monday to discuss the Baton Rouge native’s basketball future.
“We are going to meet again next Tuesday and probably set up a press conference next Wednesday,” Brady said. “Glen is gathering some information. I’ve called some NBA scouts. Glen’s also, I think, talking to some people who may or may not represent him, which is legal for him to do. He’s just trying to get a grip on where he is in the draft and what he’s comfortable with.”
This is not the first time rumors have circulated about Davis’ college future. After the Tigers’ miraculous run to the Final Four in 2006, both Davis and former LSU forward Tyrus Thomas were expected by some to enter the draft.
Thomas left for the NBA and was drafted fourth overall by the Portland Trail Blazers.
Davis, on the other hand, stayed put. He told The Daily Reveille on April 17, 2006, that his work at LSU was far from over.
