Technician: Coach, we wanted to do a quick question and answer with you if that’s all right.
Choboy: Led Zeppelin is my favorite band.
Technician: All right coach, we can start there.
Choboy: Carlos Santana is second.
Technician: Great. Coach, this is your second 20-win season in a row, is this the best team you’ve coached at N.C. State?
Choboy: I think it’s the most consistent team that I’ve coached since I’ve been here. We’ve had some teams that have done some great things, especially last year’s team. But I think we consistently get a very good performance out of our team.
Technician: This is the first year you have your recruits graduating as seniors. Is the success the last two years reflective of you finally having all of your recruits in place?
Choboy: The recruiting certainly has been pretty good. The players have developed in the system over the past few years. I just think it’s a sign of the program getting better. Next year we’d like to, instead of being in the top 25, we’d like to consistently be in the top 10 or 15. That’s one of our big goals — we want to continually be better than the year before; we don’t want to stay where we’re at, and that’s what were doing.
Technician: Who would you say is the leader of this team?
Choboy: [Senior] William Noblitt, no doubt. And [junior] Nick Cavaday does a great job, as well as Jay Weinacker, a sophomore. We’ve got some good leaders.
Technician: Going into today’s ACC Tournament match against Virginia Tech, how confident are you?
Choboy: Beating somebody twice in the ACC is tough to do, but when we played them last time, Nick Cavaday had to retire in his first set. He’s also a big part of doubles, so it will be a little different with him playing. I feel confident coming off a nice win against Miami. If we go out there and do our thing, I feel pretty good about it.
Technician: With the tragedy at Virginia Tech, will there be anything different in regards to their team, or anything you will do differently?
Choboy: We may wear an armband in tribute to the people at Virginia Tech. We are exploring that right now. It’s going to be short notice, but we are going to try to do something for them. We did talk to the coaches over there and fortunately none of the tennis players and none of the athletes were involved. In that respect it’s still up in the air what we will do. It puts into perspective that tennis is just a game. You’re just playing a game. It’s nothing compared to what those students had to go through.
Technician: Jon Choboy: Great coach or greatest coach?
Choboy: You’ve got to win the ACC before you’re talked about being among the greatest coaches. So, when we do that, we can talk about where I stand.
Technician: I’ll put you down for great, then.
