Punxsutawney Phil didn’t see his shadow this morning, meaning the groundhog is projecting an early spring.
The Associated Press reported this was the first time since 1999 that Punxsutawney did not see his shadow.
According to German folklore, if the rodent doesn’t see his shadow on Feb. 2, spring will come early. Otherwise, it would be six more weeks until warmer weather.
About 15,000 people decended on the city of Punxsutawney in the misty snow to wait for the predecition, according to the Associated Press.
