Men will wear wigs, makeup and sequins tonight at the Student Union. DivaNation 3: Return of the Queens, an event showcasing female impersonators, will perform tonight at the Union Ballroom at 7:30 free to University students. The Pop Culture Committee, part of the Union Program Council, is hosting the event for the third consecutive year. David Dessauer, graduate assistant and adviser to the Pop Culture Committee, said the council pays each of the local impersonators $125 to perform two song and dance routines. “All the performers are locals,” Dessauer said. Dessauer said some of the female impersonators are regular performers at a local night club, Splash, a local night club. “Some of them perform around Baton Rouge,” he said. Dessauer said the purpose of DivaNation is to bring a different part of culture to campus. “It is a program to showcase diversity for the students,” Dessauer said. “They should be exposed to this.” Dessauer said the show was successful. “It has continued since three years ago,” he said. “It’s obviously successful.” He said the ballroom has been sold to its maximum capacity the past two years. Madeleine Koerner, french studies junior, said she would attend the event. “It sounds like fun,” she said. “I would go if I didn’t have anything to do, and my friends were willing to go.” Justin Williams, business freshman, said he did not agree with the lifestyle of those in the show. “I’m not interested and probably won’t ever go,” Williams said.
