The bye week was not without its fair share of news making events for the No. 3 LSU football team.
Sophomore quarterback Ryan Perrilloux and freshman linebacker Derrick Odom III did not practice Monday after allegedly being involved in an altercation early Friday morning outside the Varsity Theatre.
LSU coach Les Miles said Monday the Tigers would prepare for Saturday’s game without the two players.
Perrilloux has been a vital part of the LSU offense this season as a dual-threat quarterback.
Odom, a Jackson, Miss., native, has not recorded a tackle this season.
Perrilloux has rushed for 192 yards and two scores while completing 29 of 41 passes this season for 414 yards and six touchdowns.
He has not thrown a touchdown pass since his three-touchdown performance against Middle Tennessee on Sept. 15.
Perrilloux has taken at least one snap during every game this season, but senior quarterback Matt Flynn said he does not anticipate any drastic changes to this week’s practice sessions.
“We’re not going to prepare any differently,” Flynn said. “I don’t know what’s going to happen with practice or whatever. … We’ll be all right.”
Senior running back Jacob Hester said because Perrilloux is not the Tigers’ normal starting quarterback, his possible absence will be less of a problem when the Tigers take the field Saturday.
“Matt gets 80 percent of the snaps anyway,” Hester said. “He’s the leader. So we don’t have to worry about the quarterback position. That’s a luxury we have.”
Miles said reserve quarterbacks Andrew Hatch and Jarrett Lee could see an increase in repetitions during this coming week of practice and could possibly see action against Alabama.
Hatch, a sophomore transfer from Henderson, Nev., saw limited action in the Middle Tennessee game earlier this season.
In the Tigers’ 44-0 win against the Blue Raiders, he completed one passes for 9 yards.
Perrilloux started that game in place of an injured Flynn and passed for 298 yards and three touchdowns.
Lee, a freshman, has not taken a snap this season. DORSEY, DOUCET HEALTH IMPROVING
Miles said he was not sure if senior defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey would play this weekend, but if his encounter with Dorsey this past weekend was any indication, the All-American should be available.
Miles said he attended his sons’ youth football game this past weekend between the Prairieville Bobcats and the St. Amant Bobcats.
Dorsey used to play for the Bobcats. Miles’ sons, Dametri and Manny, play for Prairieville.
“[Dorsey] was at the game on the opposing sideline rooting for St. Amant, and of course I was rooting for Prairieville,” Miles said. “He looked like he was moving around pretty good on that Saturday. I think he’s coming to health.”
Dorsey suffered a sprained right knee when Auburn freshman Chaz Ramsey chop-blocked him during LSU’s 30-24 win against Auburn.
In other injury news, Miles said he thinks senior wide receiver Early Doucet is feeling as good as he has all season, and he expects Doucet’s health to improve even more this week in practice.
Doucet missed four games with a reported groin injury. He participated in one play during LSU’s 43-37 loss to Kentucky but returned to full-time action against Auburn, catching seven passes for 93 yards.
