University muggles gathered Monday night to demonstrate their knowledge of the popular wizard at Herget Hall.
Harry Potter fans attended dressed like their favorite characters, while others recycled costumes from weekend Halloween parties.
Also in attendance was Potter’s close friend, Hermione Granger; the father of his tormentor, Lucius Malfoy; and the soul sucking ghost known as one of the Dementors.
“We planned this before the whole Dumbledore thing,” said Derek Richard, a resident advisor at Herget. Richard, who played the role of Lucius Malfoy, spearheaded the night. “Since the seventh book was published over the summer, we decided it would be a fun thing to do for Halloween.”
Richard planned the event with fellow RA Kurstin Strange and Brenna Cadwallader, the policy liaison for Herget’s Community Council.
The night began with attendees signing in and grabbing a slice or two of pizza. After the guessing of some of the more interesting costumes, anyone who thought they knew the wizard well enough lined up to be quizzed by a panel of judges. The judges included English instructors Carla Pethke, Pallavi Rastogi and June Pulliam.
Questions like: “Can you put the Weasley children in order?” filled the room. Some contestants frantically searched for answers, and Richard said he didn’t know “muggles” were allowed in the competition.
After determining the trivia winner was Kat Brown, an agriculture freshmen; most original in costume was Bobby Stevens, engineering freshman; and best likeness in costume was Michael Nazario, psychology freshman, Harry Potter fans settled down for discussion of the ever-popular wizard.
